O.k. so Mommy has a small confession to make. Since the birth of the babies she has been counting the babies age by weeks, no harm there right? However, she has also been saying...hey they're 3 months or 4 months, when really they were 12 weeks or 16 weeks. Mommy's life long friend, we'll call her Miss Piglove (the Miss because she is a teacher and the Piglove...well if you know her you'll get it), called Mommy out and said at this rate we would be celebrating the girls birthday a few weeks early! O.k. o.k. you win, Mommy will calculate the girls age right from now on, since the year is not full of 4 week months. As a result of the new accurate age count the girls are officially 6 months as of Wednesday the 23rd! Happy half a year girls!
The girls are growing by leaps and bounds! Their 6 month appointment was this week, the poor babies had to endure their shots and deal with a case of the sniffles as well. ! C is obviously the bigger of the two, she feels like a big sack of flour when you pick her up, very solid. She weighed in over 15lbs and is well on her way to 16. She's right on track for weight and is still registering pretty tall. M is a little petite thing and is getting long and skinny. She now weighs over 13 pounds and is also pretty tall. The doctor said that her combined height and weight puts her down in the 5th percentile, so we will have to try to start feeding her more. So far it's been going fine, she's always really hungry at the solid food feedings, but not too hungry at the liquid feedings. Looks like the girls are still taking after the parent they look like! Grandma Gigi got the girls an excer-saucer type toy this last week which has been a pretty big hit so far. The girls need to have more time where they are sitting/standing up to work those back muscles since they're not sitting up quite yet. They need to keep working out since their cousin B is such a big strong girl! She'll be racing around them in no time! The girls new big thing is stealing from each other. C likes to steal M's pacifier right out of her mouth even though C doesn't suck on it at all, she just likes to play with it. They also tend to get fixated on the same toy, specifically, Freddie the Firefly. Mommy is not really looking forward to the squabbles that are sure to come, but hopefully the girls will be crawling and exploring on their own in a couple of months. Both girls discovered their feet a while ago, but are a definite novelty right now! No "talking" yet, but lots of babbling, screaming and gibberish. Mommy and Daddy keep saying Mama and Dada, but so far we just get smiles and giggles. Daddy is starting to be amazed how the girls are looking like little people more and more. We love watching them grow, but it makes Mommy sad because this is most likely her only chance at this so she is savoring every moment.
Keeping on with the theme of savoring every moment, Mommy, who is a self confessed TV bug is keeping the tube off more during the day. No TV until 1pm on weekdays and none at all on the weekends while the girls are awake. To some it may seem like no big deal, but it is a change for Mommy, but luckily not too hard of one. She only turns the TV on at 1pm, because there are reruns of Murder She Wrote on and Mommy has always loved that show! Can't get enough of that Angela Landsbury! So far the peace and quiet has been nice and the babies love to listen to their baby C.D.s!
A funny but kind of gross story, the other day Mommy grabbed the dirty diapers off the changing table and started to take them into the bathroom. Forgetting unfortunately, that M had a very dirty diaper. As Mommy was walking through the hall she heard a splat onto the floor. M's diaper contents had rolled right out onto the floor. Oops and gross! Luckily since the girls are on solids it wasn't too awful of a clean up!
Mommy and Daddy woke up the other morning with horrible allergies, but now have realized they are colds! Again! Daddy is lucky and only had to take a day of medication and feels pretty good, but Mommy always seems to get this stuff worse, plus she can't take any cold medicine. Mommy thinks the babies come pre-programmed with germs to make their parents sick. A lot of other moms are sick right now too with back to school colds. Mommy's neighbor friend came over today and she sounded just like Mommy! At least the weather is changing and getting colder outside. A cold always seems a little bit more tolerable when it's yucky outside and you can curl up on the couch and sip tea!
Mommy is counting down the days of September so she can start putting up the Halloween decorations! Her favorite is the spiders that hang down from the front door and drop down on people's heads when she opens the front door. It always gets an ooh from the kids on Halloween. Plus one year it freaked out Aunty K!
The only other adventure from the last week, was doing a day trip up to Olympia for a good friends baby shower. Mommy, Daddy and both girls went along. Daddy and the daddy-to-be are good friends from college so they got to play with the girls while all the ladies got to focus on the mommy-to-be. It was great fun and were so excited for another baby to come along. The trip home was a bit of an adventure. Mommy usually pumps during the day, but decided just to breastfeed once we got to the shower. C did just fine, but M wasn't having it so she left Mommy uncomfortably uneven. On the way home a feeding time came and went, prompting some loud complaining from the back seat. Mommy and Daddy ended up stopping in Kelso in the Target parking lot and feeding there. Now since the girls are on solids, Dad had to run into Target and by some jarred food and spoons since the car was stocked with neither. Mommy breast fed in the front seat then ended up propping up both babies in her lap while Daddy tried to feed. Big mess, lots of laundry, but a lesson was learned. Keep solid food and spoons in the car, leave on time and most of all, stick to the homemade baby food! Mommy changed eight poopy diapers today! That's too much, they're not newborns anymore!
Happy Fall everybody!
