Playing peek a boo with M, M sharing her pacifier with Mommy as observes, C on her phone (just like mama!), C just learned to stand in her crib!, M helping Daddy with a diaper change.
One week remaining until the girls 1st birthday! Mommy and Daddy can hardly believe the twins will be one whole year! It does seem like they were born not too long ago, but thankfully they are much older now and sleeping through the night. Mommy and Daddy would rather forget the exhaustion and illnesses of the first two weeks, but are still thankful to the ever faithful grandparents who came over for the first few weeks and cooked meals and burped babies!
As usual Mommy has been neglecting her blog, but has had an excellent excuse, she has been working fervently away at birthday party preparation. Yes, Mommy has fully admitted she may be going slightly overboard, however, Nana pointed out, "If it brings you joy, who cares!" Precisely right, plus, Mommy figures it in a few years the girls will be picking out their own party themes and Mommy will be out of it. So...bring on the sock monkeys! We are having the party on the Saturday after their birthday so the out of towners can attend. It will surely be fun and crowded, but Mommy is thankful she has time to prep the party in the morning. Unlike the girls' baptism when we all were at church then rushed home to put the food out. Should be much less stressful! The only downside is Mommy has to go through the wall of boxes in the garage to find some items needed for the table. Mommy is really wishing she labeled the sides of her boxes now!
Here is your funny story for this posting. About a week ago we had one of those days. One evening Daddy detected the odor of something burning. After a full "sniff" investigation the culprit was the 10 year old microwave. It had a long run, it was Mommy's in college, so it had lasted several years and moves. Mommy was planning on going out to Target and buying something inexpensive, but Daddy wanted her to look at consumer reports for more "durable" model. After much time wasting, selecting a microwave and then trying to find out where it could be found locally, Mommy was on her way to buy it. Mommy was in a hurry, because she didn't want to miss her Lost show, if your a follower of Lost, you know why. The microwave was plunked down in the kitchen and forgotten until just before bedtime. Daddy unwrapped the microwave and announced it was TOO BIG! Papa bear was right, it was way to big. The next morning Daddy had to get up at 5:30am to get ready and go buy another microwave as Mommy really needed it for heating the baby food. After driving all the way to the store to return the overly large microwave, Daddy discovered he had forgotten the receipt, had to drive home and retrieve it wasting precious time. A new microwave was procured and installed, but poor Daddy didn't have time to make a lunch or have his morning tea (his small caffeine intake for the day) and was late leaving for work. POOR DADDY! Daddy's unlucky morning rubbed off a little on Mommy though. While changing C's poopy diaper, Mommy unknowingly got poo on the changing pad. The discovery was made while changing M. After changing M out of her dirty diaper and now pj's, Mommy had to change the changing pad cover, C's pjs, the new diaper, crib sheet, bumper, blanket and bunny! Mommy hates taking off the crib bumper, a total waste of her time, but necessary to get the crib sheet off the mattress. After finally changing out all the dirty laundry the girls were put down for a nap. After the girls nap, Mommy discovered that M had completely wet through her diaper onto her crib sheet! There goes another bumper, blanket, bunny, crib sheet, crib pad and onesie! At this point Mommy's laundry hamper was completely full and with the last load of baby laundry not even put away yet. Mommy declared the end of the crib bumpers and had gratefully retired the evil, tie on, who invented them anyway (!*#$) bumpers! To add a little irony to the story, that evening while heating up some roasted vegetables for the babes, that same burning smell and smoke came out of the new microwave. Yeah...it was the rosemary burning, not the microwave. The old microwave still worked after that whole circus act! The new microwave is still here and we got to donate the old microwave instead of dump it, so it worked out!
Mommy saved the gushing of babies until last because she was unable to do it before with the naughty no nap taking babies screeching, bumping and laughing through the wall. Now the sounds of blissful silence rings through the house and Mommy can now describe her adorable little ones in a good mood! The time change has been horrible, Mommy remembers the last time change upset the daily schedule a bit, but the girls got some extra sleep so it wasn't too bad. This time they lost a little sleep and they have been skipping naps, been extra grumpy and very clingy! Today will hopefully be our day to get back on schedule!
The girls are huge! They graduated to 12 month clothing, but can still fit in some of their 9 month. They have their one year appointment on Friday so we will see just how huge they've gotten! C has really come along in the last few weeks! She still is scooting around on her tummy, but can pull herself up to a stand in her crib and get in and out of a sitting position on her own! FINALLY! She has a lot more freedom of movement now and doesn't have to scream for a position change! The newly found allure of standing herself up in her crib has left Mommy a little frustrated at the number of times she has to go in and lay down C for her nap as she hasn't mastered letting herself down yet! M went through the same thing months ago, but Mommy had forgotten all about the grinning cheesy face that greets her when she goes to lay a naughty baby back down! M is very close to walking but hasn't the confidence yet. She can stand up on her own sometimes and slowly sinks back down to the floor. She did manage a couple of steps on her own between Mommy and Daddy, but is still holding out. Both girls are eating much chunkier foods and would rather pick it up on their own then be fed by Mommy. Independent and stubborn, we don't know anyone like that! ;) Mommy is working on sign language with the babies and some vocabulary, they still stick to the ma ma, da da, ba ba's and think the sign for sleeping/nap is hilarious, but it gives us something to work on for the day!
The house is still for sale, we have viewings every weekend. Hopefully the right buyer will come along soon, especially since there are 4 houses for sale on our street right now. Lots of choices out there! We hope everyone is well, soon we will be posting pics from the girls first birthday and their first cupcake/sugar experience. Mommy is hoping to be a little more regular with the blog postings once the girls' birthday and Mommy's catholic classes are over! Time will tell!
Happy St Patrick's Day everyone!
